Lauren Gohara's paintings of small found objects are portraits of the leaves, seeds, and other organic drifters that she picks up from the streets and spaces of her daily life. Isolated from their surroundings, they are floated in abstract, atmospheric space. The paintings are simultaneously portraits of fragments of the natural world, meditative icons, and metaphors for the cycle between life and death. They offer a moment in which it might be possible to contemplate that which is universal — our bond with the living, the temporality of that life, and its simultaneous submission to, and manifestation of, unseen forces.
