Juxtaposed by this photographer with a pair of abandoned blue jeans, Jean Michel Basquiat's famous graffiti, "SAMO IS DEAD ©" (same old thing is dead) which he put up all over Soho to mark the end of his SAMO project, is reinterpreted here with a red and white door as a backdrop to make a new American flag. Made the year Reagan became President, 27 years have now passed for the semiotic interpretation of this image to become a potential reality. The policies of Reagan, Bush I and II and the neocons has now proven that SAMO is indeed dead. With the election of Barak Obama we may be able to establish a more just and equitable society now that unfettered capitalism has shown itself to be an unworkable and catastrophic economic system.
